Sara is the owner and director of The Dance Academy of Cedar Rapids. She has been teaching in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area for over 20 years. Each year Sara continues to study in Chicago and New York to keep up with the latest trends in the industry. Sara judges regional and national dance competitions throughout the United States for various companies,  Sara enjoys challenging her students and is dedicated to helping them reach their full potential.

Sherry is a terrific dancer and teacher. Her classes are energetic, positive, and lots of fun! Sherry studied musical theatre at the University of Iowa, and has taught for over 30 years. Sherry is also the To The Pointe Boutique manager.

Heather O’Neill began dancing at the age of two. She immediately found a love for dance which continued to grow over the years. While taking technique from Sara and April she enjoyed participating in Performing Company, dance team, show choir, as well as many other activities in high school. Following her high school graduation she continued her dance education in Oklahoma City at the Ann Lacey School of Dance and Arts Management earning her BPA in Dance Performance. After leaving OCU Heather moved to Brooklyn, New York. In her time in New York she enjoyed teaching, auditioning, and taking classes at Steps on Broadway and BDC. After returning to Iowa she began teaching at DACR. Heather has enjoyed teaching at DACR and is thrilled to continue being a part of the DACR family for years to come.

Taylor started dancing at the age of four right here in Cedar Rapids. She grew up being taught many forms of dance by many of the teachers here at DACR. She went on to dance on her high school dance team, serving as captain for two years. Once she graduated she continued to search out ways to keep dance in her life. She became the coach of an area high school for a few years before joining the staff here at DACR. She enjoys being able to share her love of dance with her students, while instilling the same confidence and passion that her teachers instilled in her.

April began dancing at age 3 in Winterset, Iowa. She studied all forms of dance including ballet, jazz, and tap. April attended the University of Iowa and received a B.A. in dance in 2004. While at Iowa she performed in many shows at Space Place Theatre for the university dance program. She has choreographed for dance teams and pom squads in southern Iowa. April’s passion is to teach children and teens so that they may not only learn the correct fundamentals, but also have the talent and passion to continue life dancing.

Lisa attended the University of Northern Iowa and has previously taught in the Des Moines area. Lisa is a certified BarreAmped Method Instructor. She has choreographed for numerous dance teams and Pom squads in the Midwest. Lisa’s passion for dance and classic technique make her classes a fun and challenging experience.

Ashley Bassett received her MFA degree in Dance/Performance from the University of Iowa in May 2018. She was a teaching assistant with the department, received her yoga certification, and was the tap/jazz instructor for the UI Youth Ballet Program. She received her BA in Dance from Slippery Rock University in May 2011. After graduation, she went on to apprentice for the August Wilson Center Dance Ensemble in Pittsburgh from 2011-2012. After Ashley’s time with the company, she had the opportunity to teach dance at an international school in Fuzhou, Fujian, China for two years. When she returned to Pittsburgh in June 2014, she worked with Shana Simmons and her project entitled “Passenger,” which was performed at the National Aviary in Pittsburgh.

Joanna is originally from Washington, Iowa. She teaches all forms of dance including tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical, and hip hop. Joanna started dancing at the age of 5 and competed in national competitions with her studios as well as travelled to NYC and Chicago to receive extra training. She began teaching dance in the 8th grade. Along with her B.S., she completed a minor in dance from Iowa State University and was also on the Iowa State Dance Team where she served as captain her senior year. She graduated from ISU’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. She hopes students will have fun in her classes while learning and perfecting their dance technique.
